#003 - How can it be May already?

Hello friends! It's been quite a while since you last heard from us, but fear not - A LOT of things have happened behind the scenes in the making stories HQ since our last blog post!

Time for another update - and we have a few very exciting things to share with you today!

Let's start with a quick overview of what we've been working on since you last heard from us:

What happened since mid-March:

  • Crowdfunding successfully finished! We were absolutely blown away by all the support we received from you. After four weeks of crowdfunding, the final tally stood at € 38.160 - far beyond our wildest dreams. THANK YOU!
  • Bonus patterns goodness: The week after the crowdfunding ended, we sent out the Picos de Europa Hat and Gascogne Scarf to everyone who selected a reward package with one (or both) of those patterns. To celebrate the release, the lovely Nicole from The Gentle Knitter Podcast started a KAL for the Picos de Europa Hat! Details can be found in Nicole's group on Ravelry.
  • Test Knitting finished: A huge thank you goes to all our test knitters - without you the patterns wouldn't be nearly as good as they are! We finished our test knitting mid April and are currently working through all the feedback.
  • Edinburgh Yarn Festival: Oh my goodness, there are no words to describe how wonderful EYF was. We loved meeting quite a few of you - including a couple of designers and yarn company owners - and enjoyed it SO much. We can't wait for our next yarn festival!
  • Sample Knitting finished: Our amazing WOODS designers have finished their samples and sent them off to us in Berlin. We've already received quite a few - and we're head over heels in love with them! We can't wait to photograph them for you and show you the first professional photos of the beautiful patterns we have in store for you.
  • Interviews, Profiles & Articles almost done: Over the course of the last few weeks, our content contributors have worked hard at answering our interview questions, putting together their profiles and finishing up articles. We have a final round of editing to do, but we're already super thrilled with the additional content we'll have in the book!
  • Format & layout decisions: Together with our wonderful graphic designer Vivian we've decided on a format for the book, the sequence of the patterns and content elements, and she already finished a first "grid" - i.e. a layout proposal!
  • Website update: Because of a few other things that happened (read on!), a website update with a few new sections was in order. We hope you like the new flow!
Now, there are a few topics that we'd love to dive a little deeper into!

Update on our cabled sweater for WOODS

If you've backed our crowdfunding campaign, you received a backer update earlier this week regarding our Derborence Sweater already, so feel free to skip this part!

A few of you might have seen (or heard through the grapevine) that we've had a few severe challenges with one of the designs in the book, namely the Derborence Sweater. While we absolutely loved the design, the communication and design issues we saw with it just proved too many for us to keep going with it. We tried to find a solution with the original design for the longest time, but had to face the hard truth at the end: The most important thing for us is to make a book with extremely well-written beautiful designs that everyone would enjoy to knit and we felt like we couldn't achieve that with this particular design.

We addressed this risk early on in the "Risk & Challenges" section of the crowdfunding, but we still feel terrible that we had to pull this design from the book. But! We have found a solution that we're extremely happy with and that we're now ready to share with you: We're thrilled to have Jessica Gore (also known as The Sweater Collective) design a new cabled sweater in Lana Rara yarn. She's already working on it and the sketches we've seen are gorgeous. As soon as there's more to show you, we'll update you!

Open, transparent and honest communication are one of our core beliefs. We hope you feel the same and that you're not too disappointed by our decision to exchange one of the book designs.

WOODS is now available for stockist pre-orders!

We’re extremely excited to say that we’ve finalized our stockist partner program for making stories and already signed on the first stockists for WOODS!

If you’re a yarn shop and you’d like to order WOODS, please send us an email and / or download the stockist information PDF. We’d love to hear from you!

And last, but not least: Meet BREEZE!

We’re so thrilled to finally share these news with you: We started working on a second book! After the amazing response WOODS got from you (and the rest of the knitting community) and after we realized how much we love publishing, there was no way we were going to stop at one book. Meet BREEZE - our next spring / summer book, coming in April 2018!

We’re extremely excited to put everything we learned while working on WOODS into practice for our second book. One major learning - and the reason why we’re already starting to work on BREEZE now - is that we’re going to switch things up in the design, tech editing & test knitting process. We’re not quite ready to share the details yet, but we thought you might like to know why we’re already starting the work now - and that is why.

We’ve opened our Call for Yarn Partners and Call for Design Submissions - both are open until May 23 and May 28 respectively. Click on the links above for more details.

We can't wait to see your ideas!
