Hello knitting friends! It's been a while since we updated the blog - but don't worry, we have a very good reason:
We've been working incredibly hard at finalising the texts and photos for our first book WOODS!
Over the course of the last month, we've gone through one final round of editing the patterns, put together wonderful interviews and feature articles, and rounded up our designer and yarn company profiles.
We've also had a wonderful day shooting the photos for the book! We took our all-female crew - Jill, our photographer, Larissa and Melinda, our models, and Vivi, our make-up artist - to where we shot our crowdfunding video. Remember that? Only this time, it was actually warm and no snow on the ground! We spent a day shooting the beautiful samples our designers knit up - here are a few sneak peeks:
We've also partnered up with a few amazing stockists to get WOODS into your hands.
While you can always order our book from our website, there's nothing like browsing through it in your local yarn store and directly getting the yarn to go with the pattern you're dying to knit. This is why we're super excited that WOODS is going to be available in yarn stores all over the globe!
Watch our website and Instagram feed for announcements which yarn stores are Making Stories stockists.
Oh, and! If you own a yarn store and you'd like to order copies for your shop, pre-orders for our first print edition are open until July 31.
In addition to our work on WOODS, we've also been busy with BREEZE, our second book!
We were absolutely thrilled with the huge amount and range of design submissions we received for BREEZE. Thank you to everyone who submitted a proposal!
We're not going to lie: the selection process was hard. In the end, we chose 11 designs to appear in BREEZE, our second book in what we now informally named the "European Nature" print series, and paired them up with wonderful summery yarns. Our designers are now in the middle of writing up their patterns and knitting up their samples. BREEZE is going to be published in April 2018, and we'll be looking for test knitters soon!
Speaking of second book...
... we have a few more exciting additions to the Making Stories family to announce!
Our focus has and will always be on sustainable, breed specific, local, ethically & transparently made yarns (phew, that's a mouthful!). For our first print series with WOODS and BREEZE (and maybe a few more!) we chose to showcase European yarns that fulfil these criteria. We felt there was so much space to introduce knitters to these wonderful yarns and celebrate the heritage and new exciting yarn companies that our continent has to offer.
Over the last couple of years, and especially since we founded Making Stories, we met quite a few companies - either based in or outside of Europe - that complied with all of our criteria, except for the 100% European sourcing and production process. Sometimes, parts of the raw materials are sourced outside of Europe to keep long-term relationships with growers and farms alive and ensure transparency of that part of the yarn production. Other times, the company is based in a country outside of Europe, but with a business ethos and transparency in their processes that is 100% aligned with our Making Stories values.
We're super excited to announce that we'll publish two digital publications - one in early 2018 and one in mid 2018 - where we'll partner with a few of these new additions to the Making Stories Yarn Partner program, and we couldn't be happier about it.
While we're very excited to expand the Making Stories portfolio to also include these companies and yarns to help knitters all over the world make educated choices about the yarns they're knitting with, we'll of course continue our work in showcasing the amazing breadth and depth of European-made yarns our home continent has to offer, both in our very first print series with WOODS and BREEZE and in more upcoming publications!
And with that, we wish you a wonderful early summer or winter - happy knitting!
