Why are we doing the collective?
Let me get a bit personal here.
Making Stories is my life's work. I truly believe that we can make this world a better place by showing how a business that cares for this planet and its people can exist and thrive, even in a capitalist world.
That being said, it's damn hard. Choosing this path means much more time spent researching the origins of and trying out everything we carry, making very careful decisions about what to purchase and how much, and, in the case of our print magazine, higher paper prices and printing costs.
In a very volatile world with rising living expenses everywhere, running a small business has become really risky. Every shop update, I hold my breath – will this one be received well? Will I recoup the money I put into the yarn we purchased? Or will it bust, and we will have to scrabble for the next month?
With the Collective, we are adding a stable revenue stream to our business. This solid financial foundation will allow us to keep being as mindful and conscious about adding new products.
It will also help to keep the magazine going – right now, we are not losing any money on the magazine if we are selling out of an issue, but given the fragility of the print space, things can shift very quickly.

Lovely Notions and Accessories! ![User picture]()
Off course I always love receiving yarn from Making Stories and the color changing yarn is so soft and beautiful- I can’t wait to cast on! Also, this time, I ordered project bags and the pottery mugs. Both are so nice and shipped well without incident and I am having tea in my mug tonight while starting projects with my new yarn. Yes! Simply log in to your account, click on "Manage Collective membership", and choose which level you'd like to upgrade or downgrade to.

Your Collective membership is a monthly auto-renewal. You'll get charged on the same day every month on which you started your membership. For example, if you got your Collective membership on August 23, it will renew on September 23, October 23, and so forth.

Our Annual Subscription is for our magazine only - with it, you get our two magazine issues a year, and early access to our magazine-related yarn releases.
The Making Stories Collective is our Membership program and includes a discount code to the entire webshop, access to our Collective Knit Night, Collective Blog, and, in the case of the Full Skein and Sweater Quantity levels, early access to shop updates and a gift after a full year of membership.
The discount for the webshop is also applicable to magazine subscription payments as long as you're a member of the Collective.
If you already have a subscription with us, and are now becoming a Collective member at the Sweater Quantity level, please get in touch with us so that we can apply the discount to your subscription!
